Elloise has always lived for summer and says her swimwear closet has always been over flowing (which doesn’t surprise us!) She has always admired Baku and their mantra for creating beautifully fitting swimwear!
Elloise has been a part of the Baku family from a very young age modelling for the original Baku Girls label – Ginja Groovers at age 8! Whilst attending University, Elloise worked in house at Baku moving around from customer service, assisting the graphic designer and running their social media platforms.
Fast forward to 2015 when she finished her degree Elloise took over the NSW wholesale manager role and at the end of last year was promoted to being Baku’s National Product and Sales Manager.
We sat down with Elloise who gave us some insight into one of our best-selling brands - enjoy!
Can you give us an insight into the creative process for designing the new Baku Prints that are about to hit our stores:
Batika Beach is a print that emulates traditional techniques of Batik in modern colours and layouts! It’s inspired by the rich and opulent colours of ethnic and exotic lands. The print has hand drawn tiny decorate patterns that scatter across the background with stylised flowers in the foreground!
Rococco is our luxurious textural fabrication from Spain! With tactility driving the season as a key trend, the Rococco range exudes sophistication with core styling mixed with exciting new season silhouettes. Colours are key with our new fashion darks sitting alongside intense bright hues with Honey Suckle (due in-stores mid August), Machine Red and Midnight all key colours for this season!
Miami Rib is our new timeless sea-worthy stripe! It is a perennial nautical print that has updated styles that include 80’s scuba-inspired rib and sports-like press studs. Sophisticated and chic, this print will never go out of style! Due in-stores mid August.
Our new chic floral - Covent Garden embraces the joy and romance of an English Summer! The whimsical hand drawn flowers take us on a nostalgic fairy-tale with vibrant hues of honey suckle mixing with soft pastels creating a positively vibrant and blossoming energy! Due in-stores mid August.
Constantine is a print that is informed by a global outlook. This theme mixes traditional patterns and looks at shapes inspired by a multitude of regions! We look to the ornate and ancient tiles of the Mediterranean, intertwined with Moroccan tile and old-world ceramic and foulard designs!
Where do you source your inspiration from for your designs?
The designers travel to exotic places to move their aesthetic on. It could be Morocco, Positano, Miami or even just people watching on Melrose Ave in LA! People and places are essential inspirational tools but they can also be inspired by art and film!
What is your favourite style in the Baku range?
Baku caters for all women from an A cup through to a G cup and from a size 6 through to a size 20! Personally having a bigger cup I love our Underwire Bralette style! Catering for a B cup through to a DD this style is a multi fit wonder and available in majority of our prints. With a hidden underwire, side boning, lycra cup support, sweet heart neck line AND convertible and adjustable straps I find this bra supports me and creates a great shape which is why I love it!
Baku swimwear is 100% made in Australia, why is that important to you?
Quality is at the forefront of the Baku brand and we feel that there is no substitute for Australian made! The quality of our product is exceptional because we have so much control over it. Supporting Australia and knowing it is ethically made is really important to us and we love that our customers appreciate that our product is made in Australia, and they know it offers them a superior product over other fashion swim brands made offshore!
What are your 3 must have items in your summer beach bag?
In summer I always carry my paw paw ointment to be able to moisturise my lips on the go. Being out in the sun all the time I also make sure that I carry my BB cream! Not only is it good as a light daily foundation but also protects my skin from the everyday sun! I also always have my Baku Moroccan Kaftan folded up in my bag. Living on the northern beaches, I never know when I am going to run down the road and take a quick dip. It is such an easy throw over and means that I can go from beach to lunch without a second thought!
Where is your favourite holiday destination?
Anywhere there are long hot summer days, an ocean or pool to cool off in and round the clock cocktails on hand - I am in!
Do you have any exciting future plans for Baku you can tell us about?
Well there are always exciting plans at Baku! We have an exciting new resort wear capsule coming out in September in exotic prints and beautiful new shapes! We are really excited for these stunning pieces to be released. We also turn 50 next year – and still owned by the same Australian family which is really amazing!
