How Tight Should Your Swimsuit Fit

There are so many factors that come into play when it comes to finding the right swimsuit for you. From materials, to cuts and styles, to sizing and fit, there's so much that comes into play!

Today we are gong to answer the question that everyone wants to know... just how tight should your swimsuit be?! Of course, it comes down to personal preference and what you feel comfortable in, but there are a few general tips you should consider when it comes to finding a fit that is just right!

How should your swimsuit feel on?

Your swimsuit should have a snug fit. What do we mean by this? A snug fit is a tight fit that offers some compression whilst allowing you to be comfortable and move with ease. No gaps here! It shouldn’t be tight to the point however, where you feel uncomfortable or feel like you're restricted in the pool. This is particularly important when it comes to training swimwear and competitive swim suits. Whether it’s jammers, a one piece or briefs you want a sleek fit that ensures your swimsuit stays in place and will provide a streamlined shape for optimal performance in the water.

When wet, the suit will loosen a little from the weight of the water, pulling the suit slightly away from the body, so it’s vital the suit fits tight to begin with. A snug swimsuit will also help to sculpt and shape your figure, extra bonus! If you find that your swimsuit is digging in and leaving compression marks on your body it’s safe to say, in this instance, that going up a size will provide you with a better fit.

For the ladies, it's especially important to ensure adequate bust support in your bikinis and one pieces. We have a range of different brands and swimsuit styles specific to particular cup sizes, so if you're an DD-I cup and are looking for a swimsuit that will fit securely all over we’ve got you! If your bust is spilling out on the sides or digging into your breasts it’s an indicator that the swimsuit is too small.

What does the right fit look like?

Your swimwear should both look and feel like a second skin. Like many other items of clothing, over time your swimsuit will loosen with wear, so it's important that it fits close to the body to begin with. It should wrap around the body smoothly and should mould to your natural shape without any pinching, sagging or wrinkling of the fabric. If you feel the swimsuit digging in around the edges, opt for a bigger size or explore a different style.

Hot Tip: thicker straps provide extra support and comfort for our big bust girlies!

If you are between sizes, we recommend selecting the smaller size for a better fit. If you're still not sure, you can always pop into one of our 7 stores for an expert fitting. Or even better, let our fit specialist guide you in a virtual session from home!
